Integrating OEM Data: Best Practices and Learnings, from POC to Full-Scale Rollout

The telematics industry has reached a turning point where native connectivity is the new standard rather than a future goal. By 2025, 98% of Stellantis models in Europe are connected as standard, a shift that fundamentally changes how TSPs operate. This native approach eliminates hardware downtime entirely because data is available instantly without physical installation. It also provides access to over 100 signals directly from vehicle sensors while ensuring privacy by design through built-in consent management and full regulatory compliance.

Navigating the move from "the box" to the cloud requires a structured journey to ensure data remains actionable and manageable. The process begins with identifying the specific use case to focus only on essential signals, such as odometer readings or maintenance alerts, which prevents unnecessary data bloat and keeps costs efficient.

Once the scope is defined, partners must build the technical rails by choosing between real-time push streams or pull API calls depending on their specific processing needs. A Proof of Concept or soft launch follows, using a limited number of VINs to understand data behavior and latency in a real-world environment. Finally, the project moves to scale and optimize, allowing for a full rollout while maintaining a continuous feedback loop with the OEM to refine data interpretation and delivery methods.

The reality of onboarding is often the biggest hurdle for TSPs, but the native process is designed for speed. For partners already integrated with Mobilisights, adding a new fleet can take only minutes. Once the VIN is provided and consent is granted, the vehicle activates almost instantly, though some architectures may require a short 20-minute drive to trigger the onboard applications.

In the case of mixed fleets, Claire noted that while Mobilisights harmonizes data across its own 14 brands, data aggregators remain a valuable resource for fleets containing other manufacturers to ensure a single, unified format. Whether serving global leasing giants or small businesses through TSP partners, the data is accessible across the board. The future of telematics is hardware-agnostic, and the challenge is no longer about capturing data, but integrating it effectively into existing workflows.
